Does Speed Matter - Mariam C

Does Speed Matter?

Far away in the land of Staples there lived a stapler named Stick. Stick was a slow but hard working stapler. He went to the Academy for Young Staplers and often got jealous of his classmate, Stanley The Stapler.

Stanley The Stapler was a very fast stapler and what you would call a show off. He never worked hard and would often be seen showing his skills to another stapler or two. Like this one time Stanley went and stapled 49 documents in front of a few students and they were all stapled in a time period of 2 minutes. The students were amazed. They started complimenting Stanley. Stick was jealous! He wanted to be like Stanley. He wanted to staple fast and He wanted to be complimented too!

Sticks decided that he was going to work even harder. Everyday he volunteered at STAPLES and his progress was slow but it was getting a little better. But Stick was not satisfied with this!

Sticks tried to staple 457 documents a day. But again the progress was not satisfying him. He was tired and sore in the back and arm. He wanted to cry! Then he decided to just rest.

One day when Stick came to school, he saw everyone gathered around Stanley’s desk. He went to see what all the fuss was about. So he made his way through the crowd of students and there he saw Stanley crying over his broken arm. He had stapled too fast that he injured his metal bone. So immediately, Stick called the Stambulance to help Stanley. The stambulance took Stanley to the hospital where he found out he could not staple anymore.

After finding out the news, Stick finally learned that Speed does not matter. He learned that safety and hard work is more important than showing off and being fast, Although he did feel bad for Stanley, he was happy he never had to worry about being fast.

The Mystery of the three squares!

One day there was a girl named Goldiebloxs. She had three friends. They were Square 1, Square 2, and Square 3. Square 1 was the oldest, Square 3 was the youngest, and Square 2 was in between. They had lots of fun.

One day, Goldiebloxs went to the Squares’ house. When she arrived she saw that they were missing. Goldiebloxs had to find them because she would do anything for them. So she was on the case. Goldiebloxs wore a detective hat and took a magnifying glass.

Goldiebloxs went to find clues. She found footprints. She followed them to a cave that had a big wall in front of it. She tried to find a way in, but did not find anything. She checked one more time and found a button. Goldiebloxs was scared to press the button, but she had to find her friends. She pressed the button, and she started falling down.

She was safe on the ground and found another wall. This time it had a question. The question was “ What is 20 x 5?” Goldieblox typed the answer as 100 and it was correct. The wall turned around and took her. Then Goldieblox got scared, because she saw the GEOMETRY KING! She saw that he had her friends.

“ What has brought you here to my GEOMETRY PALACE?” demanded the King. Goldiebloxs did not know what to say, because she was terrified.

“ I I I came here to free my friends,” Goldiebloxs stuttered.

The king questioned “ So you want those squares back?”

“ YES” Goldiebloxs said bravely.

“ OK, if you want to have your friends back, you will have to answer three questions. One per square.” stated the king.

Goldiebloxs was afraid, but she would try for her friends.

The first question was “ Is a 75° angle an acute angle of an obtuse angle.”

Goldiebloxs knew that the answer was an acute angle. She said that, and it was the correct answer.

The second question was “ Does a circle have angles.”

Goldiebloxs said, “ No, a circle does not have any angles.” The answer was correct again.

The final question of all is “How do you find the area of a rectangle.” Goldiebloxs was having trouble with this question. She tried to remember what she learned in Math class. Then she finally remembered and said “ To find the area of a rectangle you have to multiply the length by width.”

Goldiebloxs solved all the questions correctly and she got her friends back. When they were going home Square 3 asked Goldiebloxs if she could teach them Math. Goldiebloxs was glad to teach them Math. After a long day, Goldiebloxs went home, and they all lived happily ever after.

Sherlock and Pickle - The Investigators - Mariam M

Sherlock and Pickle - The InvestiGators

“If you have a problem, we are the gators to call, Sherlock and Pickle. ”

“Wait, Sherlock,” uttered Pickle, “We have a call from City Hall, the Mayor’s gone, and he’s nowhere on the radar!”

“Well that's impossible, I left him with the Mayor's assistant, the secretary and the cleaner. Why would anyone want to take the mayor to an enclosed location with no cell service?” declared Sherlock.

“Someone who would want the Mayor out of the city without a trace.” announced Sherlock

“We have to find out who did this and stop them from causing more problems.” stated Pickle.

“Ok Sherlock, I will get the Crock Mobile ready”

“Thanks Pickle.”

An hour passed of continuous investigation and still no luck, until Pickle found a shoe which had the Mayor's stamp on it. It was only issued to 2 people, the Mayor’s assistant and the secretary which means the cleaner was innocent. Sherlock and Pickle were ready to move to the next location until suddenly ….

“Pickle, you might want to see this.”

“The mayor's work bag, he never leaves home without it.” explained Pickle.

“Exactly Pickle, grab all the evidence. I think I know where the next piece of the puzzle might be.”

When they moved their site to the Gator food factory ( because both of the gators worked there as colleagues ) Sherlock found a clue.

“Pickle, you never dropped your communication device right?”

“Did you mean the NaviGator, no, I have it right here.” declared Pickle.

“Hmm, and do you still have your Gator-ade that you had at lunch?”

“Yes Sherlock, I have it in the cup holder in the Crock mobile. See.”

“There is only one gator that drinks Gator-ade and has the new NaviGator and that gator is . . . the secretary! Come on pickle, let's go!”

A few hours later, with no luck Pickle was the one who noticed the....

“Sherlock, why is there an approved note on the ground?”

“Only people in law have requests for new rules and the only people who can do that is the Mayor, well that is true in Gatorville.”

“You might want to know what it says.”

The note read: Permission required to make tracking of any gator illegal.

Sherlock mentioned “Well Pickle, if the law approved it, it will soon be a reality so we must stop the secretary.”

“Agreed Sherlock”

After hours of driving, searching for a signal on the radar, something showed up. The dump! “Sherlock, look! The Mayor is tied up in the corner right there!”

The grateful mayor squirmed, “Thank you for rescuing me. The secretary vanished. He was jealous and gator-napped me!”

Pickle said, “ We'll, that's another mystery! Come on Sherlock.”

“Right behind you Pickle”.

My Dream Goes Bananas - Fatima

My Dream Goes Bananas

Last night I had a really funny dream. I was walking and I slipped on a banana peel! I yelled out ‘Who put the banana there’?

“I did, I did,” said a citizen. That's when I noticed everyone was bananas!

I got so scared that I started to run as fast as I could forward. I ran back to my house. I got inside and my brother gave me a banana, but he was a banana! That's when the red bell rang in my head, Time to go! I just wanted to pet my cat before I left, but she was a banana! Of course, I had to see my sister before I went and as you guessed it she was a banana too.

Sooner than later, I had an idea. I will go and sleep and maybe, just maybe, I can wake up from this disaster! I tried to sleep knowing that I would go back but I heard my mom and dad talking so I quickly hid my face in the sheets. I finally managed to doze off.

I woke up at 5:00pm! I realized that it was a school day and my mom was not home because she was working at the office, and so was my dad. Luckily no one was a banana when I woke up. I saw a note on the side table from my mom that read “Don’t forget to set your alarm before you go to sleep!”

I wish I could say it was a long story.

The Underachieving to Smart Apostrophe - Maryam F

The Unachieving to Smart Apostrophe

Once upon a time, there was a student and his name was Apostrophe. He was an underachieving student and he didn’t know where to put Apostrophes or any grammar rules. One day there was an upcoming test. He was really nervous because he knew that he would fail like in all the other “ 50 tests!”

The library was opened from 7:30 a.m. till 10:00 p.m. As he reached the entrance, he opened the door. But when he opened the door, he didn’t notice that he made a big “BANG” sound. Everyone looked at him which made him a blushing mess from embarrassment. The librarian glared at him which made him petrified. He barely moved a muscle. He didn’t feel like moving from his spot so he kept put instead. The librarian turned away and continued to do her work. Apostrophe looked away and continued to walk to the Grammar section.

When he went to the section, he caught a glimpse of a book in front of him and took it. He got his library card out, signed out the book and went straight home. He remembered that his test was on Apostrophes. He read one of the paragraphs and it said

“Apostrophes are used for combining two words into one such as:

It + is = it’s

You + are = you’re

And like that this is how you should use Apostrophes.

Another way you can use Apostrophes is like this:

When you use a name, put it like this:

Arthur’s house ….”

After he read that, he fell asleep.

The test day finally came and when he submitted his test, he got an A+.

The moral of the story is to study hard and never give up.

Punctuation Marks to the Rescue - Zohaib

The Punctuation Marks to the Rescue

One day Period and his friends, The Punctuation Marks, were heading to school. On their way to their class they saw Run On. He was surrounded by a group of kids. The Punctuation marks wanted to see what the commotion was all about.

When they got close enough they saw a big screen. Apparently, Run On was supposed to present his grammar presentation to the other kids. Run On talked about how to end a sentence and capitalization. They thought he was doing a great job- until he went to the example slide.

His first example changed the minds of the Punctuation Marks immediately. His example of a sentence was: “I like to draw flowers they look so pretty”.

The Punctuation Marks could tell something was wrong. “Hey, is it just me, or does that sentence sound wrong?”Asked Question Mark.

“Yea, believe it or not, they sound like two different sentences.” Replied Comma.

“Guys, I think he is writing run-on sentences, we have to tell him to stop before the other kids get the false information.” Said Period.

“Alright then, HEY RUN ON, YOU ARE WRITING RUN-ON SENTENCES, YOU HAVE TO STOP!!!” Exclaimed Exclamation Mark.

Everyone turned to face the Punctuation Marks. They walked towards Run On and explained what he was doing wrong.

“Everyone, listen to me. The sentence ends with a period, but that's not how a sentence works.” explained Period. “ A sentence has to have a subject and a verb to explain a thought. As you can see, The sentence: ‘I like to draw flowers they look so pretty’, may sound like a sentence, but the sentence has two subjects and two thoughts. You must split the sentence like this: ‘I like to draw flowers. They look so pretty’.

Everyone praised Period for his knowledge and after that incident, if people needed help they would ask the Punctuation Marks. (Also Run On had to redo his slides.)
